Delaware Massage Schools

Thursday, November 10th, 2005

While Delaware may be one of the smallest states in the U.S., it boasts over 700 proudly credentialed massage therapists.

Delaware offers two types of massage certification: Licensed Massage Technician and Certified Massage Technician.

Depending on the level of training you choose, Delaware Massage Schools can offer you one of two educational options.

A licensed massage technician has received at least 500 hours of training at an accredited Delaware Massage School. Conversely, a certified massage technician only needs 300 hours of training to achieve this credential.

Either way, therapists are required to take a written exam to be legally recognized by the state of Delaware. In addition, Delaware recognizes the National Certification (officially known as NCTMB), which is great for therapists relocating to the “home of tax-free shopping”.

Licensed massage technicians are required to take 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years. In contrast, certified massage technicians need only 12 hours of CEUs.

My recommendation?

Choose an accredited Delaware Massage School that offers at least 500 hours of training and coaching for both the licensed massage technician and the national certification exams.

Since Delaware is extremely close to several neighboring states (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland), some new massage grads may choose to do a short work commute to a nearby state. If so, that nationally certification and 500 hour of massage school training should help them quickly gain employment.
